Chateau Le Grand Vostock – Where French Traditions Meet Russian Ambitions
When we hear the word “chateau” we immediately picture ourselves in the sunny south of France, tasting fine red wine in the estate of the 14th century. However, this time we are taking you 3,000 kilometers to the east – to the sunlit hills of the north of the Caucasus. Preserving the best traditions of French winemaking, here, in 2003, the premium winery was established.
How Chateau Le Grand Vostock appeared
It might be interesting to find out how the winery adopted a truly French name. It all started with Cyril Necker who was working as CEO of the Russian branch of Malesan William Pitters a large wine manufacturer and distributor.
The winery has been designed and constructed based on the traditions of a French chateau: that included inviting workers from France and ordering French equipment. The beginning was successful – Chateau Le Grand Vostock was winning award after award, both at local and international competitions. The prospects seemed to be promising.
At that time, Chateau Le Grand Vostock was a truly impressive winery. Here are some numbers to convince you:
- 120 hectares of vines;
- some vines are about 30 years old;
- 100 barrels from France for wine maturing;
- 800 thousand bottles per year produced.
After 13 years of work, the financial complications have almost ruined the company and the hopes of Russian wine lovers to enjoy delicious local goods.
A new page in the history of the winery
The global crisis took a big toll on businesses and companies across the world. As a result of it, Chateau Le Grand Vostock Winery has been announced bankrupt and sold to a Russian businessman. Several years later, it started to slowly revive from the ashes.
The first wines introduced to the public after a long pause appeared in September 2020. At the same time, the company continued participating in different contests, trying to promote its products to a wider audience. At International Wine Challenge 2020 in London, two wines of Chateau Le Grand Vostock Winery were awarded bronze medals:
- Chateau le Grand Vostock Aligote 2018 with a total score of 85/100.
- Chateau le Grand Vostock Krasnostop 2018 with a total score of 87/100.
